My Yoga, my story.
I started regular yoga practice in 2010. At the beginning it was a way to take a break from my gym activity and worklife, whilst still feeling active and connected to my body. I had been physically active mostly working-out in a gym environment since the age of 15. So, by my late 40’s my body and mind needed a little more nurturing and rest.
Enter FitHotYoga as it was known then ( now ma-na). At that time owner Daniel and a few talented instructors had just introduced Bikram yoga to Hobart. Well … let’s say that Bikram yoga is no longer for me, but the discipline of yoga practice that was ignited in me at the time just kept on asking to be nourished.
A gentler yoga flow practice was to become part of my weekly routine and 5 years ago I started to practice daily Yin Yoga weekly restorative yoga classes and became a student of Zen practice. It was truly a hard time in my life as I was recovering from physical trauma, PTSD and a major re-shape of my business.
And so it was time to embrace learning!
Firstly, a course with Dr Bruno Cajun in MiCBT gave me a glimpse into the benefit of a strong and regular meditation practice. Then my first Yin Yoga Teacher Training at the Byron Bay Yoga Centre with the talented Terra Fitzgibbon.
Subsequent annual Yin studies with a most generous teacher and beautiful soul, Melanie Mc Laughlin, helped me so much in becoming the teacher I am today. This is all underpinned by my ongoing Zen study and Ayurveda practice.
Teacher Doco-san and all the staff at MuditaInstitute.com are a constant support providing face-to-face and online courses as well as kind words. Over the past 5 years I have had the opportunity to do a number of local silent retreats and a few health retreats in Byron Bay.
These intense study periods are a tough and gentle way to immerse myself into the practice of “doing one thing”. Being disciplined and present as a teacher, friend and mentor is the best that I can give to my clients and students.
By offering one-on-one and small group PT and bespoke Yin yoga classes I feel I can be of service to all who wish to work with me.
Physical and mental nourishing .
My yoga practice and regular Zen studies has bought me closer to the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. The Sanskrit term Ayurveda translate literally as “the science of life”.
Please visit : muditainstitute.com for a comprehensive Ayurveda outline. Ayurveda has helped me nourish and support my healing both mental and physical over the past 5 years. I have always enjoyed growing my own fruit, vegetables and herbs and always LOVED the ritual of daily cooking.
The daily rituals of Ayurveda are enabling me to complement and expand my love and connection with food as a soothing and essential path to health and vitality. Even a tiny amount of daily Ayurveda -Yoga -Mindfulness practice can make an amazing difference to my day and I encourage you to try it out for yourself.
Just the most simple expression in yoga practice by slowly cooking breakfast or tasting simple and delicious food can be so soothing for our body and mind.
